While Nordic cool makes the style headlines, this concert will glow with traditional Nordic warmth as Sweden welcomes London to Cadogan Hall to celebrate lillejulafton, ‘Little Christmas Eve’, on 23rd December.

In a magical blend of seasonal music and classical repertoire – both vocal and instrumental – three rising stars from Sweden will join celebrated cellist Mats Lidström, the evening’s host, Sofia Nyblom, and a collection of special guests.

Singers Hanna Husáhr (soprano) and Carl Ackerfeldt (baritone) are featured in much-loved Swedish Christmas carols such as Bereden väg för Herran, and in seasonal pieces by classical composers Gustaf Nordqvist (a Swede), Jean Sibelius (a Swedish-speaking Finn) and the Frenchman Adolphe Adam, whose soaring O Holy Night is a favourite around the world. The pianist Henrik Måwe, an official Young Steinway Artist displays his talent as an improviser with variations over well-known carols. Cellist Mats Lidström makes a personal contribution with his composition dedicated to Swedish diplomat and humanitarian Raoul Wallenberg: My Heart is in the East, a duet created with dancer/choreographer Linnea Ericsson.

With Christmas Eve (not Christmas Day) holding pride of place in Sweden’s festive calendar, lillejulafton is always filled with excitement, anticipation and enchantment – as the audience at Cadogan Hall will surely discover.

NB. Please note start time.

The concert is promoted by From Sweden Productions in close collaboration with Anglo-Swedish partners and sponsors, including the Embassy of Sweden in London, Vinterfest, Santaworld, the Anglo-Swedish Society and TotallySwedish.
