- The Claire Martin Quartet
Claire Martin has been a driving force behind the UK jazz scene for the past 25 years and has won many accolades, including a British Jazz Award no less than six times. Her massive contribution to music was noted in 2011 when she was the proud recipient of an OBE. She has recorded 15 albums, collaborating with musical luminaries including Stephane Grappelli and Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, and regularly co-presents the BBC Radio 3 programme ‘Jazz Line Up’ with Julian Joseph on top of her busy touring schedule.
Tonight’s concert programme, performed by Claire with her superb trio, will feature classic love songs from the Great American Songbook. Optimistic and uplifting, these hugely popular musical gems originating from the 1920s-1950s era will include: Gershwin’s How Long Has This Been Going On?, Cole Porter’s Get Out of Town, Irving Berlin’s Cheek to Cheek, Thelonious Monk’s Round Midnight, Rodgers and Hart’s I Didn’t Know What Time It Was – and many more.
Claire has also just won a British Jazz Award (Best New Album) for her new album Too Much in Love to Care.
