Jazz Divas: Stacey Kent & Her Musicians

2013 marks the 10th anniversary of Stacey Kent’s acclaimed, gold-selling album, The Boy Next Door (Candid Records, 2003). In recognition of this, Stacey Kent is to be presented with a Gold Disc (reflecting sales of 100,000 units) this evening. Released in more than 30 countries, this was Stacey’s ‘breakthrough’ album that cemented her position among the upper echelons of today’s jazz singers. It’s an album that goes to the heart of the Great American Songbook featuring a selection of Kent’s signature interpretations, notably The Best Is Yet To Come and The Trolley Song.

To celebrate this special anniversary, Stacey reprises some of the most requested songs from The Boy Next Door while she prepares for the launch of her new Brazilian influenced album, The Changing Lights, due for release in September. She also perform hits from her latest disc, Dreamer In Concert.

Performing with Stacey is Jim Tomlinson (saxophone) whose song-writing partnership with the famed novelist Kazuo Ishiguro has formed a central plank in Stacey’s recent albums, plus other members of her band.

‘Devastatingly stylish… a beauty in any circumstances’

The Observer

‘She has charm to burn, a smile that could give you hope in February and sings like nobody’s business’

The Wall Street Journal

‘A delight’

The Guardian

‘A magnificent record… live, she and her subtle, swinging four-piece band are even better’

MOJO magazine

‘I sat through ‘The Boy Next Door’ in the dead of night, with a silly grin on my face, sometimes shouting with joy, sometimes applauding, sometimes vainly trying to swallow a lump in my throat. Everything about it – the choice of songs, the musical interplay, the glorious voice – leaves one searching for a more superlative word than ‘greatest’!’

Humphrey Lyttelton, BBC Radio 2 – The Best Of Jazz
