An opera in six tableaux by Frederick Delius. A noir twist on the much-loved tale, set to sumptuous late romantic music.
In this dark re-telling of Shakespeare’s play, childhood sweethearts Vrenchen and Sali are torn apart by their fathers’ feuding over land owned by the mysterious Dark Fiddler, who predicts revenge on anyone who tries to claim this wilderness.
NSO’s hard-hitting, stripped-back production is directed by Susannah Waters, whose production of L’Etoile for NSO delighted audiences and reviewers alike. Delius’ dreamlike, romantic score contains the much-loved Walk to the Paradise Garden. Lee Reynolds conducts his own Kantanti Ensemble.
An emotionally gripping production, with luscious music and the dramatic story of two young lovers forced to desperate ends.
“NSO has this knack of latching onto brilliant talented people who are absolutely on the way up and about to be snatched by major opera houses” (Suzy Klein, BBC Radio 3)
