- Souvenir de Florence
- Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini
- Symphony No. 10
- Vladimir Fedoseyev
- Andrei Korobeinikov
Awarding the orchestra the name of this great Russian composer was in recognition of its role in promoting much of the music written by Tchaikovsky and for nearly 40 years the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra has been headed by Vladimir Fedoseyev.
Tonight we hear Souvenir de Florence, which, despite being composed during a visit to Florence, contains distinctly Russian and folk-like melodies and rhythms, and Shostakovich’s dramatic Symphony No. 10, the first significant orchestral work to emerge in the Soviet Union after Stalin’s demise. The award-winning young Russian pianist Andrei Korobeinikov plays Rachmaninov’s captivating Paganini Rhapsody.
