The first lunchtime concert of the festival features The Berkeley Ensemble, who have done much to champion the work of twentieth century British composers. Ireland’s ‘Sextet for Clarinet, Horn and String Quartet’ is another early work, this time rescued by the composer himself and given its first ‘modern performance’ at a concert in Ireland’s presence in 1960.
The programme also features works by Alan Bush and Benjamin Britten, both written whilst they were studying with Ireland.
