Ahmad Al Khatib
oud / composer
Youssef Hbeisch
John Williams

A special fundraising concert by the Duo Sabîl (Ahmad Al Khatib, composition and oud, and Youssef Hbeisch, percussion) with the world famous classical guitarist John Williams, in support of the Gaza Music School and the Beit Almusiqa (Shafa’amr).

During the concert, the Duo performs its own acclaimed repertoire. The two Palestinian musicians then present John Williams who performs pieces from his incredible range of repertoire, before joining the Duo in what promises to be a spectacular joint performance to end the evening.

Ahmad Al Khatib learned oud with the Palestinian master Ahmad Abdel Qase. In 1997, he joined the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in Jerusalem, teaching in the Oriental Music Department and soon heading it.

Youssef Hbeisch lives between Paris and Haifa. He taught for seven years at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music and for 10 years at Beit Almusiqa (Shafa’amr, Galilee) and gives academic seminars and masterclasses on a regular basis.

About the Gaza Music School
The Gaza Music School (GMS) was established in response to growing demand for music education voiced by children and parents who attend the Qattan Center for the Child (QCC) in Gaza City, one of the A.M. Qattan Foundation’s main projects. It is a unique project and is the only place for children to learn music in the Gaza Strip. The School specialises in Arabic instruments such as the kanoun and the oud but also teaches Western classical music theory and a number of instruments.

The School was destroyed during the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip in January 2009 but was immediately rebuilt and opened again to students in April 2009. By April 2012 the number of students reached 125, learning music on nine oriental and classical instruments. In the same year, the School was handed over by the A.M. Qattan Foundation to the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music to become its branch in Gaza.

About Beit Almusica
Beit Almusica was established as a non-profit organization (NGO) in 1999 with the mission of promoting the cultural rights of the Palestinian minority in Israel, enriching society through the development of the musical scene, creating prospects for artists and interacting with other cultures through music.

Concert organised by the A.M. Qattan Foundation in support of Beit Almusiqa & the Gaza Music School (Edward Said National Conservatory of Music).
